St. Petersburg, 1860. A member of the Imperial family is assassinated. A few days later, the writer Doestoevsky meets Gusiev, a young man being treated in a psychiatric hospital. Gusiev confesses that he is part of the group involved in the assassination and reveals that his comrades are planning to kill another one of the Tsar’s relatives. Hounded by his creditors and plagued by frequent epileptic attacks, the writer spends his days dictating “The Gambler” to Anna, a young stenographer, while at night he goes on a desperate search for the terrorists, hoping to stop the attack.
Directed by Giuliano Montaldo, 2007.
