The IIC is pleased to invite you to this event organised on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the flood that hit the city of Florence.
An enormous number of rare books, works of art and manuscripts were damaged or destroyed by the 1966 flood of the river Arno. With the effort of Italian and foreign volunteers, then called “Mud Angels”, many of these fine works were restored. The speakers will celebrate the extraordinary work of restoration, with a brief mention of Lorenzo the Magnificent’s poem on the flood of the Arno five centuries earlier. With the participation of Maighréad McParland, Former Senior Conservator (Paper) National Gallery, Anne Brady, Vermillion Design, and Corinna Salvadori Lonergan.
