Aspects of intercultural communication between Italy and Asia – with Roberto Bertoni

A book presentation by Roberto Bertoni (TCD).
In English.
Introduction by Professor Mark Chu (Head of Italian at University College Cork).

This book is inspired by an interest in Asia, multiculturalism, globalization, hybridization, and intercultural communication and transmission.

Roberto Bertoni (TCD) is an Italianist rather than an Asianist, and therefore the perspective adopted is mostly, but not exclusively, on how Italy, and at times more widely Europe, has reacted to the specific themes indicated in the table of contents. The book includes chapters on Italian perceptions of South Korea and Singapore, Italian intellectuals travellers to China since the 1950s, some Western varieties of Buddhism, and a number of intercultural literary texts. Research for the essays gathered in the volume was conducted between 2010 and 2016.
