A month before the opening of the third edition of N.I.C.E. Italian Film Festival Ireland, that will take place in Dublin and Cork from 25th to 28th of April and in Galway from 3rd to 5th of May, let’s enjoy a preview of the best Italian cinema with the first ever screening in Ireland of the film “Comandante” (2023) by Edoardo De Angelis, starring actor Pierfrancesco Favino in the role of Salvatore Todaro, commander of the submarine “Comandante Cappellini” during the Second World War.
Plot: The film tells an episode of the Battle of the Atlantic, when the Italian submarine Comandante Cappellini sunk the Belgian ship Kabalo, and Cappellini’s commander Salvatore Todaro decided to disobey orders and to rescue the Kabalo’s crew, being forced to navigate on the surface for three days, making the ship an easy target for enemies
The film opened the 80th Venice International Film Festival and will be screened in Italian with English subtitles.

ABOUT
Edoardo De Angelis (born 31 August 1978) is an Italian film director and screenwriter. He began his career in the film industry as an assistant director before making his directorial debut with the short film “Sicilian Tale” in 2004.
In 2023, De Angelis returned with “Comandante,” a war drama co-written and directed by him, starring Pierfrancesco Favino. The film premiered at the 80th Venice Film Festival, further cementing De Angelis’ reputation as a masterful storyteller with a profound cinematic vision.
