“Pastels and other purchases from the Grand Tour” – A tour at the National Gallery of Ireland

“Pastels and other purchases from the Grand Tour” – A tour at the National Gallery of Ireland with Adrian Le Harivel, Curator of British Art. Free event in English.

To coincide with a rare exhibition of pastel drawings (to 5 June), experience the wealth of art created for travellers to Italy in the 18th century and hear about the Grand Tourists’ experiences.

Decorative heads by Rosalba Carriera and pastel portraits by Hugh Douglas Hamilton precede art by the most sought after artists in Rome (Pompeo Batoni, Anton Mengs, Giovanni Panini, Antonio Canova) and vedute from Venice.
