A talk by Maria Chiara Monaco (lecturer in Classical Archaeology at the University of Basilicata, author of over 100 papers and an expert in ancient Greek history) on the Castle of Melfi in Basilicata, one of the most important medieval castles in Southern Italy. Built by the Normans in the 11th Century, the castle hosted synods and ecumenical councils and became the residence of Emperor Frederick II: there, he promulgated the Constitutions of Melfi (code of laws of the Kingdom of Sicily) in 1231. Today, the castle hosts an important archaeological museum.
