Culture Night 2015

Italian Opera

Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. This year, it will take place on Friday 18th September 2015. On Culture Night, arts and cultural organisations and venues of all shapes and sizes, including the National Cultural Institutions, extend their opening hours to allow for increased access to the public. Special and unique events and workshops are specifically programmed at participating locations and everything is available free of charge.As part of Culture Night 2015 the Italian Institute of Culture and Lyric Opera Productions are pleased to present an evening of Italian Opera featuringAccompaned by Andrew SynnottSarah Brady – SopranoSoprano Sarah Brady is a final year student of the BA Vocal Studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music studying with Mary Brennan and Dearbhla Collins. Notable engagements include performing with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for Carols in Kilkenny Castle 2014, Handel’s Messiah, Dixit Dominus and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Operatic roles include Melpomene and Urania in Cousser’s The Universal Applause of Mount Parnassus in Dublin Castle with Ensemble Marsyas; Sicle from L’Ormindo by Francesco Cavalli; Nora from Riders to the Sea by Vaughan Williams and The Novice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica.  Sarah has been a multiple competition prizewinner in the Feis Ceoil, having won seven compeitions over the last two years, and has also most recently won the Irené Sandford Bursary for Singers 2015. Upcoming engagements include her role debut as Pamina in the RIAM’s production of Die Zauberflöte in January 2016.Niamh O’Sullivan – Mezzo SopranoNiamh O Sullivan is a 20 year old mezzo soprano from Cork studying at The Royal Irish Academy of Music under Dr.Veronica Dunne and repetituer Dearbhla Collins. As well as studying opera, Niamh also studies musical theatre and had played various lead roles in Evita, The King and I, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and more.Niamh most recently came first in The Dermot Troy cup and won the most promising singer prize in The Gervase Elwes at Feis Ceoil. Niamh came 2nd place in the Irene Sandford Award for singers at the RIAM this February. Niamh is just back from Milan where she was awarded a scholarship for an opera course there.
