The Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin is pleased to present “From the Dark Forest to Paradise, A journey through Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy in thirty-three languages”, an audiobook produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the occasion of Dante’s centenary celebrations.
IIC Dublin joined the project by realising the Irish version of the podcast. This valuable result has been achieved thanks to the readings by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Alan Titley and Caitríona Ní Mhurchú with texts from Pádraig de Brún’s translation, edited by Ciarán Ó Coigligh and published by An Clóchmhar Tta. Introductory parts have been translated by Sinéad Mac Aodha and Aifric Mac Aodha.
The evening aims to celebrate this impressive work in a choral way, starting with the contributions of those who literally gave voice to Dante’s masterpiece in Irish, such as the writer and playwright Alan Titley and the poet Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, continuing with an in-depth analysis of artistic reinterpretations of the Comedy by Professor Cormac O Cuilleanáin to be followed by a video introduction to the exhibition of lithographs by artist Liam O Broin inspired to the 100 canti of the Comedy and composer Patrick Cassidy’s thoughts on his musical interpretations of the Comedy, to conclude with a reading of Seamus Heaney’s seventh section of Station Island by actor Barry McGovern – as a sign of Dante’s deep influence on Irish literature and culture.
