Dantedì 2026 | Evening Lecture — 19 March, 5–7pm

To celebrate Dantedì 2026, the Italian Institute of Culture is delighted to collaborate with the Department of Italian at Trinity College Dublin and the Centre for Dante Studies in Ireland (University College Cork) to present an evening exploring Dante’s reception in Ireland, on the special occasion of the 250th anniversary of language teaching in Higher Education in Ireland.

The event features Prof. Phyllis Gaffney (UCD) on Italian studies in Victorian Ireland, and Prof. Emerita Corinna Salvadori Lonergan (TCD) reflecting on six decades of teaching Dante through the voices of Francesca, Pia, and Piccarda.

The event is part of the research series Beatrice’s Irish Voice: Women Writers and Dante, co-organised by Dr Serena Vandi (TCD) and Dr Federica Coluzzi (Warwick / Centre for Dante Studies in Ireland, UCC).

Free entry prior booking via the form below. Programme available for download on this page.

March 25 is the National Day dedicated to Dante Alighieri, established in 2020 by the Consiglio dei Ministri at the proposal of Minister Dario Franceschini. The celebration takes place on this date, which scholars associate with the beginning of the journey narrated in the Divina Commedia.
