Examples of women’s mastery: silence on women scientists

Dacia
Maraini in conversation with Catherine Dunne.

The story
of women in culture and civil life was often a story of exclusion until the end
of the 19th century and largely into the mid-20th century. Perhaps it is for
this reason that the women who stood out in the past were above all humanists,
painters, writers and poets but much more rarely scientists. Despite the
difficulties encountered, the number of women who have made important
contributions to the advancement of science is not small. From Hypatia, through
Trotula De Ruggiero, to Rita Levi Montalcini and  Margherita Hack, history has passed on to us
the names of many famous women scientists.
