The geology and scenery of Italy: the role of earthquakes, volcanoes and tectonic plates

By Lidia Lonergan.

The history of geological activity still continues today and
Italy is subject to ongoing earthquake and volcanic activity. The lecture will
show how an appreciation of the tectonics and internal forces of our planet may
enrich our appreciation of the spectacular and varied scenery of Italy from the
majestic castellated pinnacles of the Dolomites to the barren lunar landscapes
of Vesuvius or Etna.
