The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Institute of Culture are pleased to present the screening of the film “Il Nibbio”/”The Negotiator” in Dublin. The event will take place on Thursday, 25th September 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin.
Based on a true story, “Il Nibbio”/”The Negotiator” (2025) by Alessandro Tonda tells the story of the events during the twenty-eight days that occurred between February and March 2005. Nicola Calipari, high-ranking officer of the Military Intelligence Service, is leaving for a vacation with his wife and his two children, when he is called back to Rome because Giuliana Sgrena, a journalist of “Il Manifesto”, has been kidnapped by a Sunni commando in Baghdad, while returning from a visit to a refugee campo. For twenty-eight days Calipari, called “il Nibbio”, has to move back and forth between Iraq, under U.S. military control, and the leadership of the Intelligence Services in an attempt to secure Sgrena’s release.
