Kaleidoscope

International musical encounter
Contemporary Jazz and baroque music with Francesco Turrisi

Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi curates the programme for the last chapter of Kaleidoscope’s 8th season, with gracious support from the Italian Cultural Institute. In an all-Italian programme, one of this country’s most widely renowned composers, Luciano Berio, features twice in the programme with two of his seminal Sequenzas, for solo voice (Michelle O’Rourke) and solo flute (Lina Andonovska), the latter of which is also the focus of a short work by contemporary composer Salvatore Sciarrino. Three of Turrisi’s own ensembles appear on the night- the early music specialists and Kaleidoscope favourites, The Gregory Walkers, the Taquin trio, which performs live music to the Italian short film “Isole” and Zahr, in which Turrisi is joined by Italian folk musicians Francesco Loccisano, a specialist of the chitarra battente, a unique metal strung guitar from southern Italy, and Andrea Piccioni, virtuoso of all Mediterranean frame drums. An exceptional snapshot of Italian music not to be missed!
