2019 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci, the great Renaissance master and polymath. The exhibition Leonardo. Il genio gentile, created by Stefano Baldi and first launched in the Embassy of Italy in Sofia, provides a captivating overview of Leonardo’s life and works, from the key innovations he introduced in his painting technique to his formidable contributions to science, engineering and architecture. A collection of 14 banners showing sketches, paintings and quotes by the great genius, accompanied by explanations in Italian and in English.
The opening event will take place on September 3rd 6.30pm at the Italian Institute of Culture. It will include a performance by Irish duo Tonos (Róisín O’Grady – soprano / Eamon Sweeney – lute), who will perform music from late 15th and early 16th-century Italy and France – music with which Leonardo Da Vinci would likely have been familiar. The concert will be introduced by Antonio Cascelli, lecturer at Maynooth University and an expert in history of music theory.
The exhibition will run from September 4th to September 26th and can be visited during our opening hours (Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm).
