“Un giorno speciale” (“A Special Day”, 89′) is an Italian 2012 film directed by Francesca Comencini.
The film tells the story of Gina, a young girl from the outskirts of Rome who dreams of becoming an actress. Persuaded by her mother to meet with a politician who could help her in the entertainment industry, Gina eagerly prepares for the meeting. However, the day takes an unexpected turn when she ends up spending the entire day with Marco, the politician’s driver, a young man on his first day of work. Despite their initial coldness, the two spend the day exploring Rome, discovering a mutual attraction…
The film, starring Giulia Valentini and Filippo Scicchitano, was presented at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.
The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and will be preceded by an analysis of the director’s context and work.
