Join us for a new exciting series of contemporary Italian film screenings at our Institute! From September to January we will screen 10 films in Italian with English subtitles by the best contemporary Italian directors.
The autums season will begin Monday 8 September with the film “Bangla” (84’) (2019) by Phaim Bhuiyan. Phaim is a young man of Bangladeshi origin born in Italy. He lives with his family in Torpignattara, a multicultural neighborhood in Rome. At a concert, he meets Asia, his exact opposite: pure instinct, no rules. An instant spark ignites them and Phaim will have to figure out how to reconcile his love with the rules of Islam.
The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and will be preceded by an analysis of its context and the directors’ work.

THE DIRECTOR:
Phaim Bhuiyan, a young Italian director and actor of Bengali origin, is the author and protagonist of Bangla, a film that debuted in cinemas in 2019. Thanks to this film, he won the David di Donatello award in 2020 for Best New Director. The young filmmaker dedicated the award to second-generation youth like himself.
