On Tuesday 22 October 2024, the splendid hall of the TU Dublin Concert Hall – East Quad Grangegorman – will host an evocative and exciting concert for oboe and piano on excerpts from Italian Films and Operas, not to be missed.
For the occasion the first oboe of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Gianfranco Bortolato, will duet with pianist Andreas Ioannides, Lecturer in Piano and Chamber Music at the Technological University of Dublin. Together they will transport us into the enchanted atmosphere of selected compositions by Donizetti, Ponchielli, Chopin, Morricone, Bacalov, Piovani, Parma, Gariboldi. Next to mosaics of arias from ‘Traviata’ and ‘Rigoletto’, we will hear the most famous arias from Italian cinema, from ‘Nuovo Cinema Paradiso’ to ‘Il Postino’, from ‘La Vita è bella’ to ‘Il Pianista sull’oceano’.

BIO:
Gianfranco Bortolato
Oboe soloist of the Rome Opera House Orchestra, he is considered one of the best oboists on the Italian scene.
Born in Venice in 1964, he began studying the oboe at the ‘B.Marcello’ Conservatory of his city, achieving top marks and honours under the guidance of M° B.Baldan. He continued his studies at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole under the guidance of M° P.Borgonovo. In 1992 he obtained the Konzertdiplom in Oboe at the Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel(CH). In 1994/95 he studied at the Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg (Germany) with Maestro H. Elhorst. In 1995 he won 2nd prize (first not awarded) at the Concorso Nazionale per Oboe in Venice.
As first Oboe he has collaborated with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, the Orchestra del Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro La Fenice in Venice and I Solisti Veneti.
He has played in the most important international festivals.
He regularly collaborates with the Interpreti Veneziani with whom he has recorded three solo CDs. He plays with an oboe Marigaux 901 2022 and Yamaha 831 Duet/Gold.
Andreas Ioannides
Cypriot pianist that seeks to share his passion for great music and music-making through a multifaceted career dedicated to performance, interpretation, and teaching of the piano. He has made concert appearances throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America, including performances at Boston Symphony Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Seoul Arts Center, the Temppeliaukio Kirkko in Helsinki and the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
Andreas is currently Lecturer of Piano and Chamber Music at the Dublin Conservatoire (Technological University of Dublin) and has previously served as Lecturer of Piano at Munster Technological University in Cork, Ireland and at Indiana State University, USA. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of ChamberFest Brown County, a chamber music festival that seeks to inspire audiences in rural Indiana with classical music performance and education of the highest caliber.
