Cinema theory in Pasolini is strictly linked to his poetry. To Pier Paolo Pasolini, cinema is poetry created through different means. This concept leads to a utopian system of codification, where the filmic “phoneme” is nothing but the body of the actors and acting consists in their mere presence. The result is a short circuit with biography, when the actor is either himself or somebody he loves in real life, like Laura Betti or Ninetto Davoli, who are eventually excluded from “Salò”.
