WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD – A programme full of events on the theme “Italian and Books: the world between the lines”

A week full of free events to celebrate the 24th Week of the Italian Language in the World, organized in collaboration with the Italian language departments of the Irish Universities. This year’s theme is: “Italian and Books: the world between the lines”. IICs students will have the opportunity to visit the Institute, attend conversation classes and films focused on the Italian language. Two conferences will explore Italian authors and, in County Galway, Primary School children will get to know Italy thanks to Geronimo Stilton’s adventures narrated in the book “A Thousand Wonders. A Journey to Discover Italy”.

Monday 14 October 2024 from 10.30am to 5pm – Italian Institute of Culture:

  • OPEN DAY FOR IIC STUDENTS OF ITALIAN. An “open day” for the IIC students of Italian with free conversation classes,
    board game sessions, films and documentaries in the Pavilion room, rediscovery of our Library, etc. More details and a full day schedule will be available on our website. Free admission, no reservation needed.

Wednesday 16 October 2024 at 12pm – Mary Ryan Room, O’Rahilly Building, University College Cork:

  • CONFERENCE AT UCC BY GIULIA BERNUZZI ON LITERATURE AND CLIMATE CHANGE. Giulia Bernuzzi, PhD candidate at the Department of Italian at the University of Cork, will give a lecture entitled “Reimagining the Anthropocene: Exploring Urban Reshaping and Literary Response to Climate Crisis in Alessandra Montrucchio’s ‘E poi la sete’ ”. Free entry

Wednesday 16 October 2024 at 6.30pm  – Italian Institute of Culture:

  • LAUNCH OF THE BOOK “DANTE’S DIVINE COMEDY. A READING GUIDE”.The meeting, introduced by Daragh O’ Connell (UCC), will see scholarsCorinna Salvadori Lonergan (TCD), Kenneth Clarke (University of York) and George Rayson (University of Cambridge) engaged in a three-way conversation about Dante in the English-speaking world. Free admission subject to availability.

14-19 October 2024 – Primary schools in County Galway:

  • PROMOTION OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE COUNTY GALWAY PRIMARY SCHOOLS.From 14th to 19th October, the Department of Italian at the University of Galway will promote the Italian language and culture in the city’s primary schools. Following this year’s theme, children will have fun with games and quizzes inspired by the book “A Thousand Wonders. A Journey to Discover Italy” with Geronimo Stilton.
