Churubusco tells the story of Rizzo, an Italian migrant who arrives in America in 1846 seeking fortune and dignity. There, he winds up fighting in the ranks of the United States army which has just invaded Mexico.For different reasons, some connected with his Sicilian childhood, at the end of the story Rizzo ends up in Churubusco, a pueblo hidden in the mountains, symbol of the Mexican resistance. Churubusco is the headquarters of the Battalón de San Patricio (Saint Patrick’s Battalion). A battalion formed by a large number of Irish soldiers and other Europeans, many of whom had deserted from the United States army to fight with the Mexicans.Reaching the pueblo on the eve of the final battle, Rizzo must weigh up the present and the future. It is time to choose sides.Born in Genoa on 3 September 1966, Andrea Ferraris studied stage design under Emanuele Luzzati after leaving school before deciding to dedicate himself to the world of illustration.He worked for more than 20 years for Walt Disney Italia, drawing illustrated books, book covers and numerous stories recounting the adventures of ducks and mice for the comic Topolino (Mickey Mouse). In 2007 he began collaborating with the Danish publisher Egmont. In 2011 Tunuè published Bottecchia, Ferraris’ graphic novel, with texts by Giacomo Revelli, dedicated to Ottavio Bottecchia, a 1920s cyclist and the first Italian to win the Tour de France.
