Puglia, South of Italy, 1950s. Nena has to travel far from home to get her first job as a teacher. But what she finds is completely different from what she had imagined: a school isolated on a high mountain plain, wild children, people she has nothing in common with, and a hostile environment. One cold February day everything seems lost forever when she receives a letter from her boyfriend who confesses he is in love with another woman.
