Poetry reaffirms our common humanity by revealing to us that individuals, everywhere in the world, share the same questions and feelings. Poetry is the mainstay of oral tradition and can communicate the innermost values of diverse cultures. For this reason, a decision to proclaim 21 March as World Poetry Day was adopted during UNESCO’s 30th session, held in Paris in 1999.
In occasion of World Poetry Day 2019, the IIC will host a night of music and poetry reading with guitarist Marco Ramelli, musicologist Antonio Cascelli and many other special guests. The selection of poets and composers includes Alda Merini, Jacques Arcadel, Emily Dickinson, Trilussa, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Franz Schubert, Salvatore Quasimodo, Maria Luisa Spaziani, Francesco Petrarca, Pellegra Bongiovanni, John Dowland, Claudio Monteverdi, Patrizia Cavalli.
