This conference (which includes the screening of the 1968 documentary I giardini di Abele) will examine the legacy of reformist psychiatrist Franco Basaglia and highlight the relevance of his works and thought on mental healthcare today, while discussing his influence on Irish psychiatry. Speakers include Tom Burns (Professor Emeritus of Social Psychiatry at the University of Oxford), John Foot (Professor of Modern Italian History at the University of Bristol) and Brendan Kelly (Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College).
