Religion still appears provides a framework for interpreting the world and a profound sense of belonging in Italy … even where there is no believing. Despite the rise of secularisation, religion has not gone away. It persists on Italian screens. This talk by Clodagh Brook (Trinity College Dublin) will show and discuss some of the recent spectacular images of the Catholic church in Italy, exploring the reasons behind this persistence and examining how this might affect the emergence of a cinematic voice on the part of Italy’s minority religions, especially Islam.

Event in English.

Free admission, booking recommended.
