MapsBordersTerritories #9: Sindrome Italia: images, voices, experiences from the hidden world of immigration in today’s Italy

with Tiziana Francesca Vaccaro.

Maps, Borders, and Territories; but also identities, cultures, stories. What do we become today after experiencing migration? Where does life go, afterward? When Tiziana Francesca Vaccaro meets Vasilica, Maria and Stella, she also meets the so-called “Sindrome Italia” (or Italian Syndrome: a “series of mental illnesses leading to disability”, first theorized by psychiatrists Andriy Kiselyov and Anatoliy Faifrych; this syndrome is characterized by persecutory delusion of abuse and obsession, related with working activities carried while living in Italy). The theatre project Sindrome Italia. O delle vite sospese (Italian Syndrome, or about suspended lives) is the result of a year-long inquiry, born from the collaboration with Adri - Associazione Donne Rumene in Italia and adapted for the theatre.
