Maria Carmela Colaneri, after obtaining her diploma from Scuola dell’Arte della Medaglia in Rome, started working as a mint artist and medals engraver at Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), a role that lasted from 1984 to 2020.
Amongst dozens of drawings, projects, out-lines and portraits attributed to her name (signed “MCC” on the works she produces), stands out the profile of Dante Alighieri, because of the fame of the Italian poet as well as the popularity of the 2€ coins that carries it. Starting from that portrait, Ms. Colaneri will talk about the genesis of the project, the inspiration behind her design, as well as the techniques commonly used in the often little known world of minting.
The seminar will be delivered in Italian. For the benefit of those who are not fluent in the language, we will have a printed written version of the talk in English.
Wednesday 27 October 2021, 6pm at the Italian Institute of Culture. Free event, booking required. Book your place by clicking on the button ‘Book now!’ below.
