The IIC of Dublin possesses a computerized library of over 10,000 volumes, the majority of which are reserved for reference, and over 100 DVDs and CDs.

The sections of the library reserved for consultation are: History, Geography, History of Art, Music, Theatre, Cinema, Italian Language and Language Teaching, Literature and Literary Criticism, Dictionaries and Encyclopaedias.

The sections of Italian novels, Italian novels translated into English, and novels translated into Italian from various languages (above all from English) are available to borrow to members of the Institute.

Journals and newspapers are available to the public in the Reading Room during the opening hours of the Institute. Consultation of audio and video material may be made in the rooms of the Institute upon request to the staff of the library.

Our catalogue:

Public Opening Hours: Monday - Friday 10.00am to 1.00pm and 3.00 to 5.00pm and during cultural events.

Entrance to the Library of the Italian Institute of Culture is free.

Borrowing facilities are reserved for current students of our Language Courses and to the members of the Institute: "Amici dell'Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Dublino", upon presentation of their membership card.

Membership cards are strictly personal and non-transferable. Membership cards are issued upon receipt of an annual fee of €30.


Art. 1 - Enrolment in the Library is conditional upon the possession of the relevant membership card which is issued upon the presentation of valid I.D.

The staff of the Institute will photocopy the I.D. to attach it to the enrolment form. Members of the Library are required to provide details of eventual changes of address. The membership card must be signed by the Director or the Accountant

Art. 2 - The membership card allows the holder -
to access the Library and to borrow Library material:

to be regularly informed of cultural events- also by email through the Institute's E-Newsletter for which it is necessary to leave a valid email address;

to participate in the cultural, social and recreational events organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in its own premises;

to benefit of up to 10% discount on purchases at:

Art. 3 - The membership card permits the holder to borrow two books for a period of 30 days, which may be extended by 15 days upon request by e-mail.

For all books not returned by the due date, a penalty of €1 per day will be applied.

Each member is responsible for the safe return of any books borrowed; it is not permitted to write upon or damage the books in any means.

The loss or damage of the borrowed material will result in a fee of approximately twice the cost of the books.

Art. 4 – The following books cannot be borrowed: volumes of high value, cookbooks, art books and general reference (encyclopedias, dictionaries, travel guides).
