Objects in Italian Life and Culture. Fiction, Migration, and Artificiality by Paolo Bartoloni – Book launch

with Paolo Bartoloni (National University of Ireland – Galway)

Introduction by Michael Cronin

Italian life and culture are filled with objects that cross, accompany, facilitate or disrupt experience, desires, and dreams. Yet in spite of their ubiquity, theoretical engagement in the Italian context is still underdeveloped.

Paolo Bartoloni investigates four typologies—the fictional, migrant, multicultural/transnational, and the artificial—to hypothesise that the ability to treat things as partners of emotional and creative expression creates a sense of identity predicated on inclusivity, openness, care, and attention.

Michael Cronin holds a Personal Chair in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Dublin City University, Ireland. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and is an Officier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques. He is the Series Editor for the New Perspectives in Translation Studies (Routledge). He is co-editor of The Irish Review and Editor-in-Chief of MTM.
