Alla Hugh Lane Gallery si esibiranno la soprano Leah Redmond ed il tenore Richard Shaffrey, accompagnati al pianoforte da Mairead Hurley, su un interessantissimo programma di arie della tradizione operistica italiana da opere di Mozart, Verdi, Donizetti, Bixio, di Capua, Puccini.

Leah Redmond
Soprano
Originally from Co. Kildare, Irish soprano Leah Redmond is in the final year of her master’s degree at the Royal College of Music, London where she is the Rose Williams scholar. She previously graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music with a first class Honours degree under Dr. Veronica Dunne and Dr. Dearbhla Collins. In March 2020 she premiered the Evangelina Rigaki piece If Words are Water in a series of concerts in New York and in 2019 made her debut in Ireland’s National Concert Hall accompanied by James Vaughan. Operatic roles include Erste knabe in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Sarah Peterson in Banished (Stephen McNeff) and Constancy in Scipio’s Dream (Judith Weir).
A recipient of The Lyons Club Bursary at The Trench Award, Leah is a Mozart Singing Competition semi-finalist and in 2018 was named Royal Irish Academy of Music’s Most Promising Performer in the Irené Sandford Singing Competition.
Richard Shaffrey
Tenor
Richard completed his studies on the RCS MMus Opera Course where he performed the roles of Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Lechmere in Owen Wingrave and Alfred in Die Fledermaus. After completing a DipMus Performance at the RIAM in 2013, he was accepted onto the Northern Ireland Opera Young Artists’ Programme and was later a finalist at the 2016 Festival of Voice. In 2016 he played the role of Gastone in Clonter Opera’s La Traviata and performed the role of Il Cancelliere in Wexford Festival Opera’s production of Maria de Rudenz.
In 2017 he performed the role of Rodolfo (La Bohême) at the Rye Arts Festival and in 2018 made his début with Scottish Opera as The Officer (Ariadne auf Naxos). He has featured at the Wexford Opera Festival for several seasons, where he was a PWC Young Artist, performing the roles of Dick Johnson in Fanciulla del West, Il Messo in Il Bravo, Prince Charmant in Cendrillon, and Ein Bursche in Wintermärchen.
Mairéad Hurley

Mairéad Hurley studied piano under Rhona Marshall at the RIAM and music at UCD, graduating from there with a BMus. Further studies include the répétiteur course at the London National Opera Studio and a First Class Honours MMus degree (performance) at TU Dublin Conservatoire.
Mairead was Head of Music at Opera Ireland from 1998 to 2010 and with a repertoire of over seventy operas, she has also worked for Wexford Festival Opera, Opera Theatre Company, Opera Northern Ireland, Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Lyric Opera, RTE Proms, the NSO and the RTE Concert Orchestra. More recently, she has been chorus mistress for Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. Productions to date include L’Elisir d'Amore, L'Italiana in Algeri, and Don Pasquale.
Mairead performs regularly in recital, work which has taken her to many venues at home and abroad including the NCH, John Field Room, Wexford Festival, Boyle Festival and the Wigmore Hall, London. She has officiated at many music festivals and Masterclasses throughout the country and also officiated for Gerhard Markson’s very successful series of conducting classes in conjunction with the NSO and Dublin Masterclasses.
From 2010 until 2021, Mairead was Head of Vocal, Opera and Drama studies at TU Dublin Conservatoire. She continues her work in the Conservatoire as répétiteur in the vocal department and is external examiner for the MMus Performance in Répétiteur at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire. She is currently studying for a Masters in Psychotherapy at Turning Point Institute.
