Written by Marina Carr, from Carlo Goldoni, translated by Monica Capuani and directed by Caitríona McLaughlin.

Marina Carr’s Mirandolina traverses eras and unites cultures. One of the most influential playwrights on the European theatre scene, Carr drew inspiration from one of Goldoni’s greatest works to create, three centuries later, a strikingly contemporary reimagining of La locandiera, addressing today’s issues of gender-based violence and women’s resistance to oppression. The task of bringing this contemporary drama to the stage falls to Caitríona McLaughlin, Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre.

The production forms part of the Cultural Olympiad of Milan–Cortina 2026 and will have its European première on 5 February at the Teatro Del Monaco in Treviso. It will then tour theatres in Northern Italy and Croatia before arriving in Dublin in the summer to open the term of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
