A Poetic Bridge Between Two Cultures: Translating Irish Female Poets into Italian

A feast of poetry and translation. A poetic journey across the twentieth century to the present day.

On 1st December, the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, in partnership with Irish PEN/PEN na hÉireann, is delighted to host an evening of Irish poetry in translation.

The event will take place in the Pavilion Room of the IIC, 11 Fitzwilliam Square East, Dublin DO2 KN81 at 6.30 pm.

Have you ever heard of Freda Laughton? Or listened to Eavan Boland’s poems in the language ‘where the ‘Sì’ doth sound’?

Or the poetry of Sinéad Morrissey and Afric McGlinchey?

Join us for a fantastic poetic journey across the twentieth century to the present day. Hear the music of poetry in English and Italian, listen to Italian translators and contemporary Irish poets and scholars as they read and discuss the importance of translating Irish female poets into Italian.

Eight Italian translators and guests, Renata Morresi, Viviana Fiorentino, Andrea Sirotti, Giorgia Sensi, Eleonora Ottaviani, Elisabetta Fiorucci, Maria Luisa Vezzali and Lorenzo Mari.

Four poets: Freda Laughton (1907-1995), Eavan Boland (1944-2020), Sinéad Morrissey and Afric McGlinchey.

Three Irish writers: Lucy Collins, Nessa O’Mahony and Moyra Donaldson.

Join us for a feast of poetry and translation as we celebrate language, culture and diversity!
