Margaret Burke Sheridan was an Irish born soprano [1889-1958]. Born in Castlebar, County Mayo, she was known as Maggie from Mayo and is regarded as Ireland’s second prima donna, after our very own Catherine Hayes [1818-1861] When she played the part of Madama Butterfly, Puccini was said to be spellbound, a role Puccini himself declared she embodied with “charismatic intensity and childlike appeal”.
The soloists are Irish soprano Amy Ní Fhearraigh and Welsh tenor Ryan Vaughan Davies, accompanied by renowned Irish international pianist Dearbhla Collins.
