On June 4, the first Italian Research Day in Ireland was held in Dublin, bringing together more than 80 Italian researchers from the country’s leading universities and research centres.

The initiative, organised for the first time in Ireland by the Embassy of Italy in Dublin in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC), aimed to foster mutual knowledge, dialogue, and collaboration among Italian researchers based in Ireland.

After opening remarks by the Director of the IIC, Michela Magrì, the event was inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello.

This was followed by five interdisciplinary sessions during which Professors Silvia Giordani (Dublin City University, recently awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic – OMRI), Marco Bellardi (University College Dublin), Goran Dominioni (DCU), Massimiliano Mascherini (Eurofound), and Valeria Nicolosi (Trinity College Dublin) presented some of their current research lines to the audience.

The morning featured engaging presentations and Q&A sessions covering topics ranging from nanotechnology, nanomaterials, and the decarbonisation of maritime transport to twentieth-century literature and labour market analysis in the European Union.

The day concluded with celebrations of Italian Republic Day, which this year marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Republic, bringing together representatives of Irish institutions, the diplomatic corps, the Italian community, and the local business community.
