Monday 26 June, at 6.00 pm we look forward to seeing you at our Institute for the screening of “Che bella giornata/What a nice day!” (2011) is a movie directed by Gennaro Nunziante starring Checco Zalone (stage name of Luca Medici). Zalone’s second film, after “Cado dalle nubi”’s great success in 2009. A comedy that mixes humour, social satire and romanticism, which soundtrack also includes original songs sung by Zalone himself, very iconic and linked to the plot’s context. “Che bella giornata” has earned over 43 million euros, becoming the highest-grossing Italian film of all time at the time (later surpassed by other films by Zalone himself) and has consolidated the actor as one of the most loved and successful comedians of the contemporary Italian cinema.
The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and will be preceded by an analysis of its context and the director’s work. Free entry with booking on our website.
PLOT: In “Che bella giornata/ What a nice day!” Checco is a naive and somewhat clumsy airport security guard who dreams of winning over the girl he loves. While working in Milan, he unwittingly becomes involved in a terrorism case. Amid hilarious gags and absurd situations, Checco causes chaos but ultimately manages to save the day. The film is a comedy that blends irony and social critique with Checco Zalone’s typical humor.
THE DIRECTOR: Starting in 1985, Gennaro Nunziante emerged as the creator, writer, and occasionally director of the television shows featuring the comedy duo Toti e Tata: “Filomena Coza Depurada” (1992), “Il Polpo” (1993), “Teledurazzo” (1993), “Extra TV” (1994), “Melensa” (1995), “Televiscion” (1997), and “Love Store” (1998). He later began working as a screenwriter for film and made his directorial debut on the big screen in 2009 with “Cado dalle nubi”, followed by “Che bella giornata” (2011), “Sole a catinelle” (2013), and “Quo vado?” (2016) — the latter still holding the record for highest box office earnings in Italy — all starring Checco Zalone. In 2018, he directed “Il vegetale”, starring Fabio Rovazzi, and more recently, in 2025, “Io sono la fine del mondo”, starring Angelo Duro.
