“Matteo Racconta” is an exhibition project born from the collaboration between the Italian Institute of Culture and the Embassy of Spain in Dublin. The initiative brings the artwork of artist Esteban Villalta Marzi – hosted by the Spanish Embassy in Dublin – to the Irish capital with a solo exhibition dedicated to his Pop Art. In parallel, the Italian Institute of Culture presents the Friulian photographer Matteo Trevisan, who has followed and documented Villalta’s work for years. This diplomatic and cultural synergy between the two countries offers Trevisan the opportunity to exhibit his photographs of the Italo-Spanish master, accompanied by a preview selection from his project “Il me país al è colòur smarít”: a heartfelt declaration of love for his homeland, Friuli.

Trevisan’s photographic art will offer the Irish audience a glimpse into a corner of Italy still untouched by mass tourism, despite its rich history, unspoiled nature, and bucolic landscapes that once inspired the young Pasolini – a witness to rural poverty and a way of life that still deeply influences the region’s economy today. The exhibition explores key issues related to the Italian territory, such as rural depopulation, the deep bond between the local community and the land, and its multicultural character – with Gorizia as both provincial capital and a key point on the Balkan migration route. This section of the exhibition aims to spark reflection on pressing matters in contemporary Italy, encouraging dialogue and raising awareness on social, cultural, anthropological, and environmental themes of great relevance.

The inauguration will take place on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:00 PM at the Institute. On this occasion, the Director of the IIC, Marco Gioacchini, will introduce the curator and the artist for a 30-minute talk. Admission to the inauguration is free upon reservation via the form below. Limited seating.

With the support of Fogolâr Furlan Ireland

The exhibition will remain open until May 29, 2025, on weekdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Free entry, no reservation required.
