Starting from end of March 2025, the Italian Institute of Culture is proud to offer Italian Language Upskilling Courses for Primary School Teachers, aimed at enhancing language competence among primary teachers and enable them to effectively teach Italian language to primary school children in stage 4 (5th and 6th class).
Our Italian courses will start from the A2.1 level and progress until the completion of the B1 proficiency level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
For Spring 2025, our Institute will offer a A2.1 course, please find more information below.
Language: Italian
Entry level: A2.1 (participants will need to have an A1 proficiency level, a pre-entry placement test is required to be accepted for the course)
Mode of delivery: blended (in-person and online)
Course duration: 25 hours online classes + 5 hours onsite workshop, from end of March until mid-June 2025.
Course schedule: One evening class of 2.5 hours per week for a total of 20 hours in 10 weeks + one onsite workshop day of 5 hours to be organized between the 3rd and the 14th June – please scroll down for detailed class calendar.
Criteria of eligibility for participants: Please note that courses will be offered only to registered primary school teachers in the Republic of Ireland.
Fee: The course will be offered free of charge to registered primary school teachers in the Republic of Ireland.
Certificate of completion: on completion of the course, a certificate of completion will be issued to the participating teachers, provided that they have attended at least 80% of the classes.

Additional information: The programme of foreign language upskilling for primary teachers, coordinated by Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI), is set within the context of the implementation of the Primary Curriculum Framework (NCCA, 2023) and the updated Primary Language Curriculum (NCCA, 2024).
This initiative supports teachers in upskilling in their language of their choice to prepare for the introduction of the redeveloped Primary Curriculum Framework (PLC).

We will check with PPLI your registration eligibility, correct your assessment test and let you know if you meet the criteria to participate to the course.
Please send your application by Wednesday 26th March.
Classes will be every Monday evening, from 18:00 to 20:30, from 31st March to 16th June 2025. However, please note that on the first week of June the class will be on Wednesday 4th June.
The 5 hour onsite workshop will be held on one day between the 3rd and the 14th June. Exact date to be confirmed based on teachers’ availability.
