“Translatio sanctitatis” – The theft of relics in medieval Italy Encounter with Marco Papasidero (postdoctoral fellow at Turin University). In English

The theft of sacred relics in medieval Italy is the theme that Marco Papasidero will discuss during a meeting focused on “furtive translations”, the medieval stories that used to narrate the transfer of relics after their theft.

Thanks to the study of historical contexts, narrative dynamics, literary themes and anthropological aspects, we will reconstruct the richness and complexity of this tradition over the centuries, retracing the history of this specific aspect of the worship of the
saints, which is also the history of the culture and of the religious imaginary of the Middle Ages.

Free event. In English.
